Advanced Clinics
Our advanced clinics are staffed by highly skilled optometrists with the knowledge and training to manage a wide range of eye conditions.

About our advanced clinics
Our advanced clinics are staffed by optometrists with a specific interest and expertise in the detection and management of ocular disease and equipped with the latest technology to support patients.
The development of these clinics is part of ACO Eye Health’s commitment to meet the evolving needs of the community and provide the highest standard of care that is accessible to all and delivered in a culturally safe manner.
No referral is required to attend these services, but referrals are welcome from all eye and healthcare professionals.
Myopia Clinic
ACO Eye Health’s Myopic Clinic was established in 2021 at our Carlton location in response to growing prevalence of myopia and remains the only public health clinic dedicated to myopia in Victoria. It brings together experienced paediatric optometrists with state-of-the-art equipment and techniques, such as axial measurement to provide tailored myopia control options.

There is no one size fits all approach to myopia control. Many factors weigh into the development of a tailored management plan for each child. At ACO Eye Health, we offer a number of treatments that may be able to slow the progression of myopia and our experienced optometrists can help you determine the best treatment for your child. Current treatments for controlling myopia progression include Atropine eye drops, multifocal contact lenses, Orthokeratology (“ortho-k”) and multifocal eyeglasses.
As a public health clinic, we pride ourselves on delivering evidence-based practice and staying abreast of the latest developments in myopia management.
The Myopia Clinic accepts referrals and is always happy to participate in Team Care Arrangements.
Advanced services available at: Carlton, Hume and Knox locations.
Glaucoma Clinic

Patients seeking glaucoma management can be referred to ACO Eye Health’s dedicated clinic in Carlton. Led by optometrists with comprehensive training in glaucoma, this clinic supports patients who may struggle to access ophthalmology care.
The advanced glaucoma service provides vital care for glaucoma and glaucoma suspect patients, particularly those whose condition falls outside the Victorian Statewide Referral Guidelines and do not qualify to attend a public hospital ophthalmology service.
In addition to services at Carlton, all ACO Eye Health Melbourne clinics are equipped with HFA, OCT, and fundus photography allowing us to detect and monitor glaucoma, as well as other eye conditions. Patients requiring further input from ophthalmology will be suitably referred for tertiary care.

ACO Eye Health has a team of contact lens practitioners who are trained to manage complex and advanced ocular conditions with the use of rigid gas permeable (RGP), scleral, mini-scleral, prosthetic, orthokeratology (Ortho-K), graft and keratoconus lens designs. These lenses enable improved vision for a diverse range of conditions including astigmatism, keratoconus, corneal graft, post-refractive surgery, pellucid marginal degeneration, presbyopia, myopia and aphakia.

We regularly work closely with corneal specialists and can assist with the management for cross-linking or corneal grafts for patients with anterior eye disease.
Routine contact lens care is available at all ACO Eye Health locations. If you require advanced contact lens care, you may be referred to our Carlton location. Private eye care practitioners are welcome to refer patients to ACO Eye Health for advanced contact lens services.

Dry Eye Clinic
In 2022, we launched a dedicated Dry Eye Disease Clinic, staffed by optometrists with a special interest in this area. The clinic, located within the Carlton site, is equipped with a comprehensive suite of diagnostic and therapeutic devices. Your attending optometrist, GP or ophthalmologist may refer you to the clinic but referrals are not required to attend.
Patients can expect a thorough examination to better understand how the disease is presenting and allow our optometrists to develop a tailored management strategy.

A dry eye examination will:
- assess your symptoms,
- identify risk factors and potential causes
- determine the severity using specialised equipment
- provide a diagnosis and tailored treatment plan
Based on the findings of your examination, your optometrist will tailor a treatment plan to best suit your needs. There are a range of in-clinic care options which your optometrist will prescribe if appropriate or safe, at-home therapies and lifestyle modifications may be recommended to you.
