About Outreach Services

Our outreach services ensure comprehensive, culturally safe care is delivered to vulnerable communities experiencing barriers to mainstream care in Melbourne and across Victoria.

Through this care, we support people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, people in aged care, people living with disability, refugees and asylum seekers, children from disadvantaged schools and other communities.

Eye care costs for patients, including glasses, are heavily subsidised.

Outreach team visits approx. 300 sites each year.

We provide early intervention for treatable eye conditions and early diagnosis to prevent further worsening of ocular diseases.

Some of our Outreach Programs

Visiting Disability Service

Our Visiting Disability Service (VDS) provides eye care to patients with physical and intellectual disabilities delivered, within community residential units or day facilities.

Asylum Seeker and Refugee clinic

In addition to existing outreach services for refugees and asylum seekers, ACO Eye Health operates a dedicated eye clinic in partnership with the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC), in Footscray.

Flying Doctor Mobile Eye Care Service

For many living in remote communities without fixed services, the time and cost of travelling hundreds of kilometers for optometry care is challenging.

The RFDS Victoria and ACO Eye Health have partnered for over ten years to provide the Flying Doctor Mobile Eye Care service to remote communities.
