At ACO Eye Health we care deeply about your eyes and conduct comprehensive eye examinations for patients of all ages. Our highly skilled optometrists will thoroughly examine your eyes and provide you with expert advice regarding your visual needs and eye health.
In addition to testing your vision for glasses or contact lens, our thorough eye examinations will include checks for macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, cataracts, and other eye conditions. Based on your needs, you may receive further tests or imaging at no additional cost to ensure you get the most complete care.
Our optometrists offer an all-encompassing eye test tailored to each patient's individual needs, ensuring ample time without rushing. We kindly request patients to allow for the following time for their appointments:
First appointment: up to 90 minutes
Follow up appointments ( may include dilation, visual field): 30-50 minutes
Teaching clinics

ACO Eye Health is proud to work with a number of major Australian Universities, providing their final year students with the opportunity to work alongside our optometrists to provide care to our patients.
This may mean a student is assigned to your appointment, alongside a supervising ACO Eye Health optometrist. In this case, your appointment may take a little longer than usual. If you have booked an appointment with ACO Eye Health and you have any questions about our teaching clinics, please contact us (03) 9439 7455.
Teaching clinics take place in our Wyndham, Darebin, Hume and Knox clinics. Please note not all appointments at these locations include student optometrists.

No referral is necessary to arrange an ACO Eye Health appointment. If you are under the care of a specialist or optometrist and they have recommended you attend our clinic, a referral would be helpful so we can target the right treatment or service for you.
Yes, we can see people who don’t hold a PCC or HCC. The consultation will incur a fee with a Medicare rebate which will depend on your Medicare entitlements.
Consultation fees are bulk billed for Pension and Health Care Card Holders, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, refugees and asylum seekers, and children under the age of 18.
Some exceptions for children’s services apply, such as contact lens fittings.
The majority of our eye care is provided by our highly skilled optometrists. However in some instances a few consultations may involve optometry students but these are fully supervised by fully qualified experienced optometrists. These students are in their final two years of university study. Workplace experience is key to ensuring that young optometrists are work ready and equipped to meet the needs of a diverse and ageing population. Consultations involving students may take a little longer.
For most people, it's recommended to have an eye test every three years. People with diabetes or other conditions may be advised to visit an optometrist every 1 to 2 years. If you are over 65, it’s advisable to have an eye test every year.
If at any time you experience any change in your vision it is recommended you contact ACO Eye Health to arrange an appointment.
Simply contact the clinic where you purchased your glasses from originally and they will be happy to assist. Please note that some frames may no longer be available, so a substitute may be offered instead. To order the same pair again your prescription will still need to be valid.
Yes, you can claim for prescription glasses with your private health insurance extras. Contact your health fund provider for more information.
All of our clinics can access your details, latest glasses purchase and glasses prescription, making it easy to the ACO Eye Health location most convenient for you.
- Always remember to use both hands to take your glasses off to help maintain their original shape.
- Use a formulated cleaning spray.
- When cleaning your lenses with the cleaning spray, it’s best to use a clean microfibre cloth.
- On a hot day, you need to be mindful that it’s even hotter inside your car. Lens coatings don’t love the heat, so keep them away from places like the dash of your car.
- Always carry your glasses in their case when they are not on your face. This ensures your lenses won’t get scratches from placing face-down on hard surfaces.
This is determined by the condition of the frames, their size, shape, curvature and your prescription requirements. Our recommendation would be to visit your preferred branch with the frames and have a chat with the team; they will be able to assess your glasses for suitability and will be able to give you a quote based on your requirements.
